Charles William (Charley) Umberger, 81, left us on February 26, 2017, with his family by his side. Charley was born March 10, 1935 in Roanoke, Virginia. He was a truck driver for 46 years and a security guard for 10 years until his retirement. Charley was 32nd degree Mason and was active with the Grand Lodge and the National Sojourners of Tennessee. In his later years he actively participated in honoring fallen military heroes through the Patriot Guard.
Charley was survived by his daughter Cathy Umberger-Cope of Whitehouse, Tennessee, his sister Pat Cosky (Jack) of Thompson Station, Tennessee and his sister Brenda Howell of Columbia, Tennessee and brother-in-law Gil Johnson of Columbia, South Carolina.
His three grandchildren, Megan Cope, Zachary Donaldson, Christopher Cope, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sue Ellen Umberger, his parents Billie P. and Gordon W Umberger, his brother Tom and Richard Umberger and sisters Jean England and Barbara Johnson.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the West Nashville Phoenix Lodge, 4607 Sloan Road, Nashville at 7pm.
