In Loving Memory of Dennis William Peterson
Dennis William Peterson passed away on August 9, 2026, leaving behind something far greater than any single accomplishment could measure: a family, a legacy, and generations of lives forever shaped by his own.
Dennis was a man of remarkable ability, determination, and depth. He proudly served with the 101st Airborne Division, earned a Master’s degree in Music from Yale University, and later earned his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. His life reflected an uncommon combination of discipline and creativity, strength and intellect, service and ambition.
Those accomplishments tell us something about the man Dennis was—but they do not tell the whole story.
His greatest legacy, his family.
For 39 years, Dennis shared his life with his beloved wife, April Lynn Van Hoorelbeke. Nearly four decades of marriage created more than a shared history. Together, they built a family whose story now reaches through children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—a living legacy that will continue long after his passing.
Dennis is survived by his children, Ross Robert Peterson, Kelsey Page Locke, Tori Marissa Dodds, Jason Peterson, Dawn Kuzia, and Tiffany Nardizzi.
His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Hadley Dodds, Eloise Dodds, Everly Dodds, Lauren Buehrer, Sophia Nardizzi, Lila Nardizzi, and Rowan Locke, and through his great-grandchildren, Lainey and Grant Buehrer.
He is also survived by Dorothy Gaylord, Dores Baggett, Doug Peterson, and Darlene Peterson.
Dennis was preceded in death by Donna Fraizer and Debra Peterson Carretero, as well as his parents, Edna Powell and Ray Stanley Peterson.
There are some lives that cannot be contained within the dates written beside a name. Dennis is one of them.
His life continues in the people who loved him. It lives in the stories that will be told around family tables, in memories that will unexpectedly return years from now, and in the pieces of him that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will recognize within themselves.
That is one of the most powerful things about family: a person does not simply disappear when their life ends.
A father’s words can remain in the minds of his children long after they were spoken. His mannerisms can appear unexpectedly in a son or daughter. His humor can surface in a grandchild. His strength, passions, lessons, and even his imperfections become woven into the people who came after him.
And one day, people who never had the opportunity to meet Dennis may know him through the stories told by those who did.
His grandchildren will carry memories of him into their own adulthood. His great-grandchildren will inherit a history that began long before they could understand it. His children will continue forward carrying not only their memories of their father, but pieces of the man himself.
That is the quiet immortality of family.
Dennis accomplished much during his lifetime. He served. He studied. He created. He learned. He loved. And he built a life.
But when the titles, degrees, accomplishments, and years are set aside, perhaps the greatest measure of Dennis William Peterson’s life can be found in something much simpler:
He leaves behind people who will remember him.
People who came from him.
People whose lives were changed because he was here.
People who loved him.
And a family that will carry his story forward.
Grief is the price of having someone woven deeply into the fabric of a family. Dennis will be deeply missed, and there will always be a place within that family that belongs uniquely to him.
But his death is not the end of his influence.
Every time his name is spoken, every story is retold, every photograph is passed down, and every new generation learns who Dennis William Peterson was, a part of him remains.
His life has ended.
His love remains.
His family continues.
And his story is not over.
