Edgar “David” Broadhurst III passed away at Abes’s Garden Community on 9-16-23 from vascular dementia. He was born on October 2nd 1945 in Greensboro nc to Sarah Denny and Edgar David Broadhurst Jr. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ,where he was a member of Beta Thera Pi. He was a lifelong Carolina Tar Heel and an avid UNC basketball fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Libby, daughters Mamie ( Richard Williams) and Jean (Brandon Schoeneweis), son Rob (Lauren) and grandchildren Nora and Fletcher in addition to a grandson due in February . He is also survived by two sisters, Denny (Dewitt McCotter) and Craig, two sisters- in -law Carolyn (Tom Hanlon) and Anne (Chad Andis) and nieces and nephews. He served in the US army in Vietnam and supported non profits that provided assistance to veterans. He pursued a career in commercial real estate initially in Hilton Head island followed by Dallas and Nashville . He was a member of First Presbyterian church where he was an active participant and leader in Stephen ministry. After being treated for esophageal cancer, he found a great deal of purpose in walking alongside others through their cancer treatment and life thereafter. He loved the NC mountains and enjoyed spending time in Blowing rock NC throughout his life. He was a proud father and grandfather and has passed on his wry sense of humor and quick wit to his children, for better or worse.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alive Hospice, Abe’s garden Community or the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
