James Franklin McDaniel

James Franklin ‘Frank’ McDaniel was born on May 13, 1929, the third son of O. A. and Margaret Greer McDaniel.  The family was in Richmond, Virginia when he was born, and moved around with his father’s job during his childhood before ultimately landing back in Tennessee.  Frank attended Isaac Litton High School where he met and fell in love with Lois Adele Hudson.  They ran away to marry soon after high school.  Soon after marrying, Frank and Lois lived in North Carolina where Frank proudly served stateside during the Korean War as a Marine.  When his time with the Marines was over, they returned home and after ten years of marriage, they welcomed Melissa Lynn to their family.  Life was busy for the family of three with church, school, and ballpark activities.  Frank worked in several capacities with the family business and building management, but his favorite job was after retirement when he worked as a sack boy at the local grocery.  During his retirement years, he and Lois shared a two-family home with Melissa and Marty and their three children, Taylor, Daniel, and Eric.  ‘Pop’ adored and was proud of his grandchildren, he attended their many events from recitals and concerts to ballgames. He was thrilled when his ‘birthday’ buddy, Rachel married Daniel and then the addition of his grandboys Hudson Gray and Porter James.  Frank participated in sports as a player and a coach.  In recent days you would find him still involved as he cheered on his favorite teams.  Frank loved Jesus and served faithfully as a teacher and deacon at Gallatin Road Baptist Church, Alta Loma Baptist Church, and Faith Baptist Church.  He received the honor of Deacon Emeritus from Faith Baptist Church on July 11, 2018.  Frank and Lois celebrated 75 years of marriage on July 17, 2023.  Frank peacefully passed away on August 4, 2023, under compassionate care at Alive Hospice Nashville.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents O. A. and Margaret Greer McDaniel, brothers O. A. ‘Mike McDaniel and Robert F. ‘Bob’ McDaniel, nephew Erle Hudson, Jr. ‘Hap’, and his granddaughter, Deana Lynn Meadows.  He is survived by his wife of over 75 years, Lois Hudson McDaniel, his daughter Melissa (Marty) Meadows, three grandchildren, Taylor, Daniel (Rachel), and Eric, and two great-grandchildren, Hudson Gray and Porter James Meadows, sister-in-law Sue McDaniel, and a host of nephews and nieces from the Hudson and McDaniel families.
