Loretta Ann King Nelson was born January 6, 1950 to Viola Brooks-Garner and the late Daniel Zeddie King, in Lackawanna, MY. She was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2015.Loretta was raised as a Christian and became a member of Westwood Baptist Church University Center in Nashville, TN after relocating in 2008.Loretta was in the first graduating class of the Campus School in 1968. She attended Temple University on a scholarship for one year, then returned to Buffalo, NY where she attended Buffalo State Teachers College.Loretta later met and married Gerald Jerome Nelson. In this union came three children: Mariama, Jalila and Rafiq.Loretta began employment at Bethel Head Start then worked at In-Home Support Services (Ethicare) as a Personal Care Aid. She was later promoted to case manager. She was then offered a position at Interim Healthcare (Medical Personnel Pool) as a coordinator. During her time there, she was offered a position as Human Resource Manager, and retired from there in 2006 before relocating to Antioch, TN.Loretta enjoyed being with family, cooking, bowling and organizing/"supervising" social gatherings.She leaves to cherish her memory husband: Gerald; her three children: Mariama Nelson of Nashville, TN, Jalila Nelson-Malone (Kelon) of Silverdale, WA and Rafiq Nelson (Silvia) of LaVergne, TN; her 6 grand-children: Darnell (Raje) Guzman, Juwon Malone, Joshua Guaz, Natali, Sarai and Camila Nelson; brothers and sisters: Cathy Garner, Stephen Moore, Michael Moore, Lucille Garner, Cynthia Garner, Leona Garcia, Leon Garner, Brian Garner, Denise Garner, William Erick Garner, and Reggie Garner; aunts: Jessie and Herlie Knighter; uncle: Hezakiah (Uncle Boot) Brooks; and a host of other family and friends.Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Thursday, February at 6:00 PM at the Westwood Baptist Church University Center, 2510 Alvion St in Nashville. A final celebration will be conducted Sunday, February 8 at Hopewell Baptist Church in Buffalo, NY.NASHVILLE FUNERAL AND CREMATION 615-256-1605
