Marshall Woodrow Estes was born on January 5, 1942 in Jackson, Tennessee. He departed this life on July 26, 2026 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee at the age of 84.
Woody was an avid sailor. He began his love of sailing by sailing with friends on Percy Priest Lake. These experiences led him to buy his first sailing vessel, a Hobie catamaran. Woody later moved up to a cabin sailboat, Holly, and pulled up anchor to live in South Florida where he would have access to the sea. There he gained his U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s license and moved up to a larger sailboat, Welkin, that would take him around the world.
Woody is survived by his sons Marshall Troy (Jena) Estes and Matthew Christopher Estes, his grandchildren Derek (Laura), Matt (Stacey), Tyler, Hannah, and Maggie Estes, and his great grandsons Miles, Micah, and Henry Estes. He was preceded in death by his parents Marshall Christopher Estes and Edith Louise Estes.
