Son of Monroe Fitzhugh and Rachel Cantrell Paul. Andy was born and raised in the Nashville area, and graduated from Glencliff HS in 1966. He started college at MTSU and after completing his first year, he put it on hold to join the US Air Force. He proudly served his country from 1968-1972. During his enlistment, he was stationed at several bases in Thailand and Korea, providing munitions for the war effort in Vietnam. He was also stationed at RAF Base Wellford in England. He met fellow airman Charlie Colbert early on and they became fast friends, a friendship that continues through today. After discharge from the Air Force, Andy moved to Memphis to complete his college studies, graduating from the University of Memphis in 1974. In 1978 he moved to Jackson, TN for work, where he met his wife Peggy and her daughter Mindy. Andy and Peggy married in Jackson in May 1979, and in 1981 the three of them moved to Nashville to be closer to Casey, his daughter, who was born in 1976.Andy had a long career mostly in the automotive industry. He had a lifelong love of cars, starting as a teenager, when it was either fix it himself or walk. His love of cars included taking excellent care of every vehicle he ever owned. He loved maintaining them, washing, waxing, detailing until they shined. He enjoyed keeping his vehicles all running and most importantly, looking good.Andy retired in Feb 2010 and was finally able to devote all his time to his vehicles, including his grass mowing equipment and keeping his yard and house in excellent shape. He took pride in his work and it showed.Andy's other hobbies included reading (spy thrillers, murder mysteries, police procedurals), the NY and LA Times crossword puzzles, and playing his guitars. he indulged all of these hobbies daily. He was self taught and could read music and play by ear. Over the years, Andy and Peggy hosted and attended many "Pick & Grin" gatherings with friends. Andy's prized guitar is a Gower, handmade for him by his longtime friend Randy Gower.Andy was a private man, not one to like socializing or attending gatherings. He had a small group of friends and a small family, including his wife of 40 years, Peggy, his daughters Casey and Mindy, his son-in-law Tony Baine, and his grands Eli and Rachel Baine, whom he loved with all his being. He was fiercely devoted to his tribe and we will miss him terribly.
