Raymonde Georgette (Coullon) Gatlin
Raymonde was born April 2, 1934 in Châtelaillon-Plage, France to Raymond and Marthe Coullon and was known to family and close friends as “Monette.” She passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Monette worked for the U.S government in France, where she met her husband, Jimmy. They married in 1959. She steadfastly supported him during his 23 years serving in the U.S. Army, including several year-long deployments. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was dedicated to her family, including the family pets. She was devoted to raising her two daughters and years later was thrilled to be a grandmother. She was nurturing and taught her daughters to be kind, respectful, inclusive, and to always do what is right. Monette was a constant presence in her daughters’ lives. She often chaperoned school field trips, and her home was a favorite hangout for her daughters’ friends. She was proud to be able to pass on her heritage and ensured that her daughters and granddaughters appreciated French history, culture, language, and cuisine. She later enjoyed taking her granddaughters to France to introduce them to her home country.
Monette and Jimmy enjoyed traveling after retirement and enjoyed being “Nana” and “Pappy” to their granddaughters. Some trips included the entire family, and others were just Nana, Pappy, Tata (Michèle) and the grandkids. Monette also enjoyed gardening, embroidery, knitting, cooking, and baking, especially during the holidays.
She is survived by her daughter, Carole Ozment; son-in-law James “Jim” Ozment; granddaughters, Kelly and Laura Ozment; brother, Daniel Coullon; and nephew, Nicholas Coullon. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband and daughter, Jimmy Gatlin and Michèle Gatlin, and her parents, Raymond and Marthe Coullon.
A private remembrance of Monette’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary of Mount Juliet, TN or Amedysis Hospice.
Sweet Maman/Nana, you will always be in our hearts, and we love you very much. Rest in peace.
