On May 19, 2025, Richard Gerard Maher, affectionately known as Dad, Papa, Dick, and Mr. Richard, entered the Kingdom of Heaven at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Maher and Marjorie Massoures Maher. Dick leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and boundless kindness. His warm spirit touched countless lives, and his memory will forever be a guiding light for those who knew him.
Richard was an extraordinary father to his beloved daughters, Cammi (Jeremy) and Courtney (Andrew-deceased), pouring his heart into raising them with unwavering devotion and pride. As a cherished Papa to Jackson, Colin, Paige, Drew, Avery, and Gerard (deceased grandsons Owen, Eli, and Anthony), Papa's playful spirit and tender love created treasured moments that will live on in their hearts forever. He rarely missed a game, birthday, or special event. He also shared a close bond with his brothers and sisters: Bob (Pat), Tom (Adele), Sandra (Bill deceased), David(deceased) (Becky), Mark (Karen), and Shannon (Brad). He also dearly loved all of his nieces and nephews.
A man of many talents, Dick was a college baseball player at Oglethorpe University, a pilot, air traffic controller, contractor, repairman of all things broken, and one heck of a corn hole player. Above all, Dick will be remembered for his infectious laughter that could light up any room, his kindness that knew no bounds, and his remarkable ability to make everyone feel like family. He never met a stranger, greeting everyone with a warm smile and an open heart, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate to cross his path. Dick's love was a gift, freely given and deeply felt, binding his family and friends in a circle of warmth that will endure. Though he is now at peace in the arms of the Lord, his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched with his generosity and joy.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held at a date to be announced. We will gather to honor and celebrate the remarkable man who made the world brighter. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Mr. Richard's memory to:
