Samuel Farris Baird Born 9 January 1951, Sam was recently called home to be reunited with his forever and 3 days, Deborah Ann Baird, on 5 November 2020. He is survived by his son, Evan Thomas Baird, sister Rose Ennis, and his brothers and sisters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).Sam served his country in Vietnam with honor. During his service in the U.S. Army, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Sam continued his civilian service to Veterans as the Commander and Lifetime Member of VFW Post 1970 in West Nashville.Sam's fierce compassion, devoted love of Veterans, humor, and kindness to others will never be forgotten. Sam will be forever missed, rest easy brother, we have the watch.Graveside Services for Sam will be held at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (7931 McCrory Lane, Pegram, TN 37221) on 15 December 2020 at 1400 hours. The U.S. Army, American Legion Post 45 and VFW Post 2120 will provide a rifle salute, present his flag, and play taps.A Celebration of Life will be held at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1970 (7220 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209) immediately following. In lieu of flowers, Sam requested that all donations be made to VFW Post 1970.
