Obituary

Steven Andrew Burris June 5, 1954 – October 26, 2026

Steven Andrew Burris, born June 5, 1954 in Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on October 26, 2026.

Steven lived in Kansas City during his early adolescence, where he played high school football as a running back. At the age of 18, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. Here he proudly served for four years in the communications division. Steven lived a life full of adventure, drive, and more than a few stories to tell. During the 1980s, he enjoyed karate and bodybuilding and even spent a short time entertaining under the stage name “Lover Boy,” with his mother making his costumes.

In January 1990, Steven was awarded the Meritorious Service Award from the San Antonio Police Department after bravely rescuing a stranger from a burning vehicle. His working years included time as an aircraft mechanic at Smyrna Airport in Tennessee, as well as owning his own automotive shops. Steven was a true jack-of-all-trades and a man who could fix just about anything with a motor. He found joy in riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, boating, and playing the drums and guitar. His favorite song, “The Sound of Silence” by Disturbed, will forever hold a special place in the memories of those who loved him.

Steven’s greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. They lovingly knew him as “Bobo.” He treasured every moment with them, whether it was teaching them to swim, making them laugh, or simply spending time together. Steven was a hardworking, fearless, funny, and generous man with a heart much softer than he sometimes let on. He was a natural teacher, a father to all, and someone who always had something to do or someone to help.

Steven is survived by his wife, Alice Burris; his children, Aaron Burris, Victoria Guzman (Zachary Guzman), Steven Burris, and Marisa Burris (Zhaarndre Wickham); his brother, John Burris; his beloved grandchildren, Addy, Xavier, Lola, Mateo, and Issac; his best friends, Jeff, Rick, and Tom; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Dewilla Burris; his brothers, Buddy Burris, Howard Burris, and Billy Burris; and his sister, Debra Burris.

Steven leaves behind a legacy of courage, hard work, laughter, and unconditional love. He will be remembered for his fearless spirit, his generous heart, and his ability to fix almost anything. Though his family will deeply miss his stories, his humor, and his presence, the lessons he taught and the love he gave will live on through them. He will forever be loved and remembered as their Steven, their father, and their Bobo.
