After a major stroke on Easter, April 5, 2026, William Lawrence ‘Bill’ Crouch passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN, surrounded by family and friends.

Bill grew up in Hopkinsville, KY with two older sisters, Ann and Carol, and little sister Sallie. Little brother got to tag along and learned social skills early which prepared him for a fun high school and college social life.

He attended Western Kentucky University where he and his friends founded the original chapter of the Phi Diddly Dee Fraternity (think Animal House). They “established” many chapters along their travels to WKU away games. Even then, Bill was the social chairman for mixers and trips.

After college, Bill worked in Bowling Green, KY at NCR Corporation until 1983 when he and his sister, Ann Poe, founded The Peddler, a Shopper publication in Clarksville, TN and Hopkinsville, KY. It became very popular with the local community and continues still today.

Bill and his wife, Iva Gail, have resided in Nashville, TN since 1985. He retired last year.

Bill was a fun-loving and caring person who made, and kept, many devoted friends. He was both a welcome guest and a generous host and was sure to lift the spirits of any party or gathering. Lifting spirits was one of his specialties; if he noticed you ‘were out of the neck’, a refill was forthcoming.

He loved golf and played it well, being known for speedy play, meandering putts, dramatic approach shots, and, always, his warm and friendly manner. He loved boating and could regularly be found on their houseboat, enjoying a weekend with guests on Center Hill Lake. His favorite place was sitting in the lake with a drink in his hand. He loved sports, especially Vanderbilt football and basketball. This last year was particularly rewarding with both teams having exciting finishes to great seasons.

Bill was good at turning a game into an event - traveling together, spending time with family and friends, sharing laughter and love, making it special. He had a big heart, and he was happy when he was sharing with friends. He will be deeply missed.

Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Iva Gail (Lohden). He was a proud father (and best friend) to his son Dr. William L. Crouch IV, (Lisette), and loving grandfather to Madelyn Teresa Crouch and William L. Crouch V. He loved his sister Sallie Colburn (Doug) as she was just like his mother, always positive, and sister-in-law Carol Lohden Dillard (Mike) as they always shared a good hearty laugh. Godsons Nicholas Nelson and Wynn Poe Jr. and many nieces, nephews, and cousins loved “Uncle Bill”.

Predeceased by his parents William L. Crouch II and Dorothy Childs Crouch and big sisters Ann Poe (Edwin) and Carol Campbell (Lawrence).

If anyone wishes to make a donation in Bill’s memory, please consider the Team Gleason Foundation which provides technology, equipment and services for people living with ALS, a terrible debilitating disease that impacts Bill's sister-in-law, Carol Dillard.
