William Thomas Vaughn age 65 passed away peacefully at his home in Madison,TN on September 6, 2020.Thomas is preceded in death by his father Cleo Thomas Vaughn of Nashville.Thomas is survived by his mother Elizabeth Porter (James) of Bellevue, daughter Amber Breitweiser (Barrett) of Knoxville and granddaughters Macy and Shelby. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Vaughn of Brentwood, niece Kristi Gumm (Steve), nephew Brent Bale, and three great nieces all of Hendersonville.Thomas was born in Nashville on December 16, 1954 and attended Maplewood High School. He sadly fell victim to drug and alcohol addiction for most of his teenage and young adult life. At age 30, he beat the disease and was clean and sober for 35 years. He spent most of these years supporting Narcotics Anonymous by attending meetings regularly and frequently speaking at larger meetings. He worked with the Koala Center in Madison in the late 80s and later at the First Step program in Hartsville. He sponsored uncountable others in the NA program and genuinely loved helping them succeed in their personal struggle with addiction. He had a no-nonsense approach, and it worked.He was an avid sports fan and faithfully followed the Tennessee Titans, Vanderbilt Commodores, and Atlanta Braves. Thomas enjoyed motorcycle riding and took many scenic trips. He loved dogs, especially his most recent companion Chopper. He attended Cross Point Church.Thomas worked for Ameriprise Financial in Cool Springs and also maintained an office in Madison. His career was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer. He later developed liver disease and eventually succumbed to its effect on his body. He fought a good fight.A private burial will be held for family only, due to Covid concerns. Memorial donations may be given to Narcotics Anonymous Nashville.
