Retired Health Care Executive Richard Stewart Thuma passed away at his home in Nashville, TN on March 7, 2023 at the age of 79 after a battle with cancer.  He was born on April 4, 1943 in Sycamore, Illinois to Jack and Marguerite Thuma. His professional career that spanned decades was spent in the Medical Technology Industry at Baxter Health Care International as Vice President of Quality Care which took him to all regions of the world. He will be remembered as a dedicated professional of the highest integrity with a warm personality, and as an excellent mentor and friend.  After retirement he then consulted in this field and continued to travel the world.

Richard, who preferred to be known as Dick, lived a full rich life and those who knew him would call him a true renaissance man. Not only did he scale peaks in his career, in his earlier years he spelunked, ice climbed, winter-camped and hiked many peaks including the Alps. He was an accomplished chef, pianist and woodworker, having completed a cedar-strip canoe among his many pieces of woodworking. He was a voracious reader and loved classical music.

Dick is survived by his wife, Martha of Nashville, TN, son, Jeffrey (Jean) of Athens, OH, daughter Robyn Pyle (Lindsey) of Albany, OH as well as stepchildren Lisa Coffman of Nashville, Jocelyn Phillips (Glenn) of Nashville, Davey Young (Kayoko) of Tokyo, Japan, and William Jeffrey Young of Franklin, TN. Grandchildren include Meghan, Jenna, Madison, Owen, Warren, Samuel, Noah and Mei. Having been preceded in death by brother Ron he is survived by siblings Joel, Mark, John, Peggy and Nancy.

Dick will be missed by his family as well as a large and loving community of friends in Alcoholics Anonymous. This supportive brotherhood was extremely important to him. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his memory to either the Middle Tennessee chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous www.aanashville.org or the American Cancer Society http://donate.cancer.org .
