Hunter, as he was known, was the son of the late Lucien Hunter Burkitt, Sr and Jane Gwin Burkitt. He was raised on the family farm in the Cane Ridge community, where he grew up in the Cane Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was employed as a manager with Service Merchandise before moving to Greenville, TX where he owned and operated his own apparel store. Upon his return to Nashville, he was employed by Purity Dairy in their sales department.

Hunter was an avid reader and enjoyed his visits to the Nashville Public Library. He was a great supporter of reading and education as well. His free time was filled with his love of golf and poker. He enjoyed card games a few times weekly with his friends. He was also longtime member of the Nashville Jaycees on Franklin Rd.

Hunter adored his grandchildren and particularly enjoyed “throwing them in the river” as they landed on the family sofa.

He and his wife, Carole, enjoyed travelling and spending time together.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson: Luke Duncan; and a son-in-law: Mike Duncan.

He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Dillon Duren, Brooke Duren and Devon Duncan (George Cecil); and several nieces and nephews.
