Lucien Hunter Burkitt, Jr, age 73 of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, Oct 6, 2021 at the Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Hunter, as he was known, was the son of the late Lucien Hunter Burkitt, Sr and Jane Gwin Burkitt. He was raised on the family farm in the Cane Ridge community, where he grew up in the Cane Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Following his graduation from Antioch High School, Hunter completed a double major in History and Business at Belmont College. He was employed as a manager with Service Merchandise before moving to Greenville, TX where he owned and operated his own apparel store. Upon his return to Nashville, he was employed by Purity Dairy in their sales department.

Hunter was an avid reader and enjoyed his visits to the Nashville Public Library. He was a great supporter of reading and education as well. His free time was filled with his love of golf and poker. He enjoyed card games a few times weekly with his friends. He was also longtime member of the Nashville Jaycees on Franklin Rd.

Hunter adored his grandchildren and particularly enjoyed “throwing them in the river” as they landed on the family sofa.

He and his wife, Carole, enjoyed travelling and spending time together.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson: Luke Duncan; and a son-in-law: Mike Duncan.

Hunter is survived by his wife, of 28 years, Carole of Lebanon; son: Geoffrey Pfeifer of Franklin; daughters: Rynn Duren (Arnie) of Rockwall, TX and Christy Duncan (Jake Beesley) of Indianapolis, IN; sister: Sue Burkitt Clark (Danny) of Cane Ridge; and a brother: Harry Burkitt (Cindy) of Lebanon. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Dillon Duren, Brooke Duren and Devon Duncan (George Cecil); and several nieces and nephews.

The family will gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, October 9 at the Burkitt Family Farm at 225 Battle Rd in Antioch from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in Hunter’s memory to ALIVE Hospice or your local Humane Society.
