Jane Durkin

June 21, 1945 — November 3, 2022

Nashville

Jane Durkin, 77, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully and surrounded by friends and family on Thursday, November 3, 2022. Jane was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on June 21, 1945. She graduated from Technical High School and was married to Joseph Durkin on September 17, 1966, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Joe and Jane were lucky enough to spend 55 years together before he passed away in December of 2021. Jane spent most of her life raising her children and caring for her family. She worked hard to instill a sense of optimism, resilience, and independence in her children and was by far and away their biggest cheerleader. As her children got older, Jane entered the workforce and spent a little over 10 years at various positions at Beck-Arnley Worldparts Inc. After retiring, she and Joe moved to Wilson County. Jane spent several years volunteering at the Wilson County Community Help Center where she enjoyed connecting families to community resources. Eventually moving back to Nashville, Jane spent much of her time honing her card playing and Bingo skills at the Donelson FiftyForward Senior Center. Ever competitive and always willing to share her quick wit and joyous laugh with others, Jane never missed a chance to play cards or trivia with friends and make others smile. Humble, thoughtful, generous, and selfless, Jane was the kind of person who always made others feel important and her fun-loving and kind spirit will be truly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Julia and Henry Norek, her husband, Joe Durkin, and by her son, Stephen, who lost his life to leukemia at age 7. Jane is survived by her daughter, Jules McCord and her husband, Joe McCord; daughter Jane Durkin and her husband Aaron James; and by her cherished grandchildren, Morgan McCord, Clay McCord, and Andie James. A Mass will be offered in her honor on Saturday, January 14, at the Church of the Holy Rosary, in Donelson, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, Jane requested that donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of her son, Stephen.
