Kathleen Brent

July 27, 1933 — August 29, 2021

Nashville

Kathleen D. Brent, age 88, peacefully passed to her “true home” after a rapid decline of multiple illnesses. She was born in Franklin, TN and preceded in death by her father, Clyde N. Hughes and mother, Clara Mai Hughes who loved and adored her unconditionally. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Amonette (Robert-Deceased), Lisa Shankland (Jamie), two grandchildren, Chris Amonette (Trina), Mackenzie Britt (Logan), one great grandson Keller Britt, her “favorite” sister Jan Anderson (Howard), two nephews; Howie Anderson (JoAnn)(children-Lauren Powell (Aaron), Wes Anderson) and nephew Chad Anderson (Angela)(children-Mattie Anderson, Tucker Anderson, Maclain Anderson, Chloe Anderson, Paylin Anderson, Bodie Anderson, Piper Anderson) along with great nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She was known by her many friends, her church family, co-workers, and neighbors as “Kitty” or “Miss Kitty”. All those who met her loved her! She was a beautiful Christian woman who loved the Lord. Even as a young child, she had a deep-work ethic instilled by her parents. She loved her many years of working at Genesco, where she enjoyed multiple roles, one being a shoe model. In addition, she worked and modeled clothing at Leon’s Women’s Store. She had an amazing flair for fashion. She retired from Baptist Hospital where she worked in the Mammography Dept. as a supervisor.

She was extremely loved by her family and known as “Mommy”, “Mimi/Nanny”, “Favorite Sister”, “Aunt”, and Loyal Friend. She was a long-time member of the Charlotte Avenue Church
of Christ, and later the Western Hills Church of Christ where she was beloved and known as the “Hat Lady”. She almost always wore a matching hat to church and you could hear her saying
“we always want to give God our best”. She never left home without a beautiful outfit with everything matching, lipstick and nails. She was a wonderful housekeeper and loved her home and making it look beautiful. She enjoyed attending church; spending time with her family, friends and neighbors; traveling – especially to the beach; singing church hymns; listening to live music; sitting outside in the sun; shopping; playing Rook with her family; playing Bingo; sitting by the fireplace; going for drives to see Christmas lights; she loved dining out at restaurants (her favorite being J. Alexanders). She loved watching the minister, Charles Stanley; Titans and Alabama Football; and most recently frequently enjoyed Hallmark movies and the Golden Girls, while enjoying her favorite night time snacks: fritos and diet coke or oatmeal cookies or apple fritters with a good cup of coffee. She was a very emotionally strong woman who loved and lived life to the fullest until the Impact of the Pandemic. Regardless of her circumstances, she kept her positive attitude and her no-nonsense wit. In her final days, her family continued to pray over her, reminisced about old times; and sang her favorite church hymns until the Lord called her home. Our lives will never be the same without her to love and her to love us; but we will hold on to our memories until we meet her in Heaven one day!
