Esten “Jack” Ice

December 13, 2019 - May 25, 2016

Esten “Jack” Ice- Age 82, passed peacefully to his heavenly home surrounded by family on May 25. Jack was born into a family of twelve children to Esten and Flossie Ice in Smithfield W. Virginia.  He is survived by two brothers, Roy Ice (Tootsie) and James Ice (Diane).

After being raised in a family that lived strictly off the land, Jack learned a hard work ethic that carried with him throughout his life. He moved to Ohio after the marriage to his wife, Ann, where he worked many years in the local steel plant.  He and his wife were blessed with three daughters and a son.  In 1971, the family moved to Tennessee, where Jack worked in real estate and later in home remodeling.

Jack’s work ethic stayed with him to the very end. He fought a long, hard, and courageous battle for six years of vascular dementia that eventually robbed him of his mind and body.

His greatest loves in life were his family (especially the grandchildren), his friends whom he always enjoyed sharing a beer with, his beloved Boxer, Sammy, county music, the mountains, metal detecting on the beach, and woodworking. His last products of his handiwork were four church pews he restored and gifted to each of his children.

The family takes great peace in knowing he is now with his Precious Megan. She was his first grandchild, and was killed by a drunk driver in December 2004, when she was 22 years old.

Per Jack’s wishes, there will be no formal service, only a family gathering when his ashes are spread.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Middle TN Boxer Rescue (MTBR) 330 Franklin Rd. Suite 135A-192 Brentwood, TN 37027, or Beech Softball (his granddaughter’s love-Megan #23) 3126 Long Hollow Pike, Hendersonville, TN 37075.

Jack was survived by Ann Ice, his four children, Sherry Williams (Brian), Debbie McCrary (Jimmy), Carolyn Ice-Jackson (Bruce) and Richard Ice; his six grandchildren, Luke McCrary (Jessica), Caleb McCrary, Jenna Williams, Easton Ice, Jessica Williams-Zebari and Ashley Williams-Binegar (Luke); and his six great-grandchildren, Colby Henley, Carwan and Kavy Zebari, and Collin, Cori, and Cage Binegar.

Jack and his whole wonderful family are my second family since they lived in Ohio. I have so many wonderful memories of him-even after they moved to Tennessee and I would visit he would welcome me like his long-lost daughter.Family was so important to Jack and I know his will miss him terribly. But I also know him and his beloved Megan are together having a great time! Prayers to everyone-I love you all! Kim& Joe
