Jessie Wallace McNutt died peacefully on August 7, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was 94.
Jessie was a delightful and loving woman whose soul was filled with grace. She was a patient mother, dedicated wife, and a supportive and conscientious colleague. Jessie was a superb hostess, who shared her love of cuisine with her friends and family.
Born in Tipton, Iowa on November 1, 1920 Jessie graduated from Iowa State University. She pursued a career in nutrition and served with the 77th Evacuation Hospital in Bar le Duc, France and Verviers, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge.
She later worked as a dietician in New York and earned a Masters in Public Health at Simmons College.
Jessie married Dr. Walter S. McNutt and they had two sons, Malcolm and Ronald.
She worked as a government employee for the Army at Natick Laboratories in Massachusetts until she retired.
When her husband died in 1999, Jessie moved to Nashville to be near family. She volunteered for the Council on Aging and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed being part of the Presbyterian Women.
She loved her life at Richland Place and she remained very active with family, friends, church, and travel before she struggled with dementia in her late 80’s.
Jessie leaves her sons, Malcolm of Sumter, S.C. and Ronald (Camille) of Nashville, and grandsons Aaron, Jacob, and Jesse, all of Nashville. She leaves her brother Newton Wallace of Winters, CA and sister-in-law Nancy Wallace of LaFayette, LA as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
We would like to thank her caregivers at Richland Place, Brookdale Senior Living, and Avalon Hospice for their loving care.
A memorial service for Jessie will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, on August 15, 2015 at 4 pm, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Outreach Ministries of Second Presbyterian Church or Linden Waldorf School.
