Pamela (Pam) Jane Guthrie, age 73, died peacefully on January 31, 2018 at Vanderbilt Medical Hospital in Nashville, TN after a brief illness. She was surrounded by friends and family, who continue to gather from across the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman C. Guthrie Sr, and Ruth Pace Guthrie. She is survived by her siblings Norman C. Guthrie Jr., Timothy Dwight Guthrie, Robert Wade Guthrie, Thomas Harding Guthrie, David Paul Guthrie, Mark Pratt Guthrie, and Hope Elaine Bryant, as well as her beloved daughter, Katharine (Katie) Pace Lachenmyer and Mars the poodle.
Born in Charlotte, NC on February 1, 1944, Pam lived most of her life in the South but developed lifelong friendships across the US, France, and Israel. She held degrees from Pfeiffer College, Tulane University and Middle Tennessee State University. Her occupations and interests were vast, including political activism, radical feminism, running a bookstore, fishing, printing, teaching, social work, daylily farming, painting, mountain climbing, golf, earning masters degrees, being a mother, and loving her poodles.
A celebration of her life will take place at Trevecca Towers, 60 Lester Avenue, Nashville TN 37210, in the chapel on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. Her ashes will be spread near the South Toe River in Burnsville, North Carolina at a later date.
