Robert J Dilworth

February 9, 1935 - July 11, 2020
Robert J Dilworth Obit Pic

Robert J. Dilworth, 85, known as Bob, peacefully entered the Lord’s kingdom on July 11, 2020 after a brief hospitalization in Nashville. Born in Huntsville, AL on February 9, 1935 to Dr. & Mrs. Thomas E. Dilworth, Sr., he was a graduate of Huntsville High School and Vanderbilt University (B.S. in Chemistry). Bob spent most of his adult life in the Atlanta area, having careers in chemistry, real estate sales and a variety of other sales and managerial positions. He re-settled in Nashville in 2014.  He was formerly married to Barbara Eslick Dilworth, also of Huntsville, who departed this life in February 2020.

Immediate survivors are sons Robert J. Dilworth, Jr. of Larchmont, NY and Lee Craig Dilworth of Nashville, their spouses and children (Carolynn Dilworth, Andrew Dilworth, Katharina Heitbaum; Julie Krug Dilworth, Jackson Lee Dilworth, Frederick Lee Dilworth) and brother, James B. Dilworth, of Auburn, AL.

Bob had a scientist’s keen, analytical and organized mind that he applied toward many of life’s tasks and problems, great and small. He coupled these skills with his Christian faith, sound values and a friendly and open demeanor.  Unfailingly kind, he treated everyone with personal respect and importance. This powerful combination of qualities had a lasting influence on Bob’s friends and family. Bob and Barbara gave their sons practical skills and the encouragement and self-confidence to pursue dreams that they could not have imagined as children. These quiet influences live on through Bob’s extended family.

The family offers its sincere appreciation to the caregivers at Morningside of Belmont for their excellent care, especially during the pandemic of 2020, and to his physician and nurse, Dr. Robert Quinn and Alicia Hayes. To the kind staffs at the Crow’s Nest and the Kroger in Green Hills, thank you for being Bob’s community in recent years and helping him navigate living alone for as long as possible.

Burial is planned in Huntsville, AL at a later date.
