Marjorie A. (Mills) Fuehlen, 89, our beloved mother, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at her residence in Mt. Juliet, TN.
Marge was born in Elgin, IL on August 24, 1926, to Margaret and James Russell “Mac” McCabe who preceded her in death. Her family, which included her older sister, by one year, Alice Jean, moved back to Des Moines, IA due to the struggles of the great depression. Des Moines became home where she completed her education with a teaching degree from Drake University. The challenges of that era molded her values and character, which created a strong, fiercely determined women, mother, wife and friend. Over the years of raising their three children, Marge and family moved nearly every two years until David’s retirement in 1987 and eventual passing the following year in Jefferson City, MO. Marge eventually remarried to John Fuehlen where they spent many happy years together splitting their time between Holts Summit, MO, and Orlando, FL.
Marge, a voracious reader, always had books checked out from the local library. A few of her other passions, besides her family, were closely working with Cole County (Missouri) Republican Women’s Club, Elks, Janis Club, Newcomers, and Meals on Wheels. She was a dedicated Bridge player, no matter what city they were living, and would join the local Bridge Club. Playing the card game of Pitch became a family tradition during the holidays and get-togethers at the Lake of the Ozarks, where she was a passionate competitor.
While living in Green Bay, WI in the early sixties, Marge and husband, David, became season ticket holders for the Green Bay Packers. This marked the beginning of an avid following of the Packers for not only their children, but for the generations that have followed.
She is survived by her three children: Carter J. Mills, Sheri L. (Mills) Wilcox and Greg S. Mills; grandchildren: Shellie Wright, Julie Whitaker and Jennifer Clark; her great-grandchildren: Lance Garrison, Nicole Garrison, La’Vonte Clark and Joseph Whitaker; great-great-grandchild: Colton Garrison.
She was preceded by sister and brother-in-law: Alice Jean and Clarence Runtsch; husbands: David C. Mills and John Fuehlen; step-grandson: Chris Moilien; and step-great-great grandson: David Wilson IV.
Her final wishes were to be cremated with a private family service. The surviving children are planning a private interment service at the Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City, MO next to her late husband, and their father David.
In lieu of flowers please send donations in her honor to: Alzheimer’s Association – Mid South Chapter, 4825 Trousdale Drive Suite 222, Nashville, TN 37220.
